It's believed in fact that it drifts from the Hebrew El Ischa and means “God is health” or as abbreviation of Elisabetta (name Hebrew Elisheba, composed from El, God, and scheba, seven, the number of the perfection; it means therefore “God is perfection” or “God is oath”)
