AIRE is a registry office that holds the details of Italian citizens who reside abroad for a period longer than twelve months. The AIRE registration is a civil right and is mandatory (actually a lot of Italians don't apply to it), it is the prerequisite to exercise important rights, such as to vote for political elections by mail in the country of residence and to request the renewal of identity and travel documents. |
